The State House has passed legislation that really sticks it to hunters this fall.
The proposal that cleared the house creates a “BASE” tag that sells for 11 bucks. Out of staters have to cough up $150 for this base tag. It’s good for waterfowl, migratory birds, and small game.
Then come the add ons. A buck tag goes to 20 bucks. A bear tag goes to 25 bucks. A 24 hour fishing license jumps to ten bucks. Regular fishing licenses fall from $28 to $25, but out of state licenses jump from $42 to $75 dollars. I have no idea what they are going to get you for a combo tag.
You’ll pay more to off road too. The vehicle license fee jumps to $26.25, and if you want to use state trails the fee is $36.25.
The bill was pushed through by Newaygo Republican Jon Bumstead. He says no one will care about the increases as long as they know where the money is going.
Where is it going? : Wildlife, fisheries and habitat programs.
