My wife Kim and I live on a 16 acre farm in Solon Township in Kent County.
We are trying to get a beef operation going, but make some money with our egg business.
I love to restore old wooden motor boats. (DO YOU HAVE ONE THAT'S BEEN IN A BARN FOR YEARS?)
I love to fly radio control airplanes and the ones with strings that we all had as kids! Anyone have some of those lying around?
My best buck is a rather small eight point, but it is hanging in my office.
My best fish was a King Salmon I fought for 45 minutes on the lake. But it got away.
I grew up in Chicago and remain a dedicated Cubs and Bears fan.
The State House has passed legislation that really sticks it to hunters this fall.
The proposal that cleared the house creates a “BASE” tag that sells for 11 bucks. Out of staters have to cough up $150 for this base tag. It’s good for waterfowl, migratory birds, and small game.
Then come the add ons. A buck tag goes to 20 bucks. A bear tag goes to 25 bucks. A 24 hour fishing license jumps to ten bucks. Regular fishing licenses fall from $28 to $25, but out of state licenses jump from $42 to $75 dollars. I have no idea what they are going to get you for a combo tag.
You’ll pay more to off road too. The vehicle license fee jumps to $26.25, and if you want to use state trails the fee is $36.25.
The bill was pushed through by Newaygo Republican Jon Bumstead. He says no one will care about the increases as long as they know where the money is going.
Where is it going? : Wildlife, fisheries and habitat programs.
A suburb of Madison, Wisconsin has had it with bullies. The City Council has passed a law that allows police to ticket the parents of repeat offenders, and to require those parents to appear in court.
Monona, Wisconsin will levy a $114 dollar fine on first time offenders, with the fine rising to $177 for second violations.
The director of the National Bullying Council in Minnesota calls the legislation groundbreaking.
City leaders say the intent is not to harrass parents who kids are truely monsters, but to do something about parents who insist, "My kid would never do that... they are an angel."
