I called General Electric and asked how many times it’s top of the line wind turbine has to spin to equal the energy in one barrel of oil.

The answer? 978 rotations of a wind turbine produces the same energy as one barrel of oil. On a windy day, the turbine will spin 978 times in one hour. That works out to 24 barrels of oil each day for each turbine.
So, that one turbine spinning for one year equals 8760 barrels of oil. The going price for oil today is $95.00. $95.00 times 8760 equals $832,200.00.
Proposal 3 would require many more than 100 wind turbines, but just using that as around number, 100 wind turbines would generate enough electricity to off set $8,322,000 in oil money that would otherwise go to some Sheik in the middle east.
Over the life of those turbines, (20 years) that equals $1,664,400,000.00. (One Billion, 644 million, 400 thousand.) Remember, that’s just 100 wind turbines.
Since the late 70’s we’ve heard politicians talk about saving energy, and energy independence. But they never do anything.
Now here is a fantastic number. One estimate says 144-thousand wind turbines would power the entire east coast of this country. In dollars? That’s $1,198,368,000,000.00 that would stay in this country every year. That’s One Trillion 198 billion 368 million dollars.
That's all free electricity.
